Fondation Emergence breaks LGBT awareness campaign

Montreal-based Fondation Émergence has begun an awareness campaign aimed at the parents and other family members of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in Quebec's various ethnic communities. The campaign consists of five business card-sized postcards distributed through the Montreal transit system. Each execution depicts a parent and child from a specific ethnic community, along with the copy, "I support my gay son because he's my child" or "I support my lesbian daughter because she's my child." The intent of the campaign is to make ethnic communities aware of sexual diversity issues and to remind people that discrimination based on sexual orientation is prohibited according to the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms. "Keeping in line with this campaign, we also wish to broaden our circle of partners with organisations working among Quebec's ethnic communities," said Laurent McCutcheon, president of the foundation.
