CRTC mandates digital television awareness campaign

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has announced that conventional television stations will be required to conduct a national awareness campaign to inform Canadians of the transition to digital television that will take place on August 31 and to let them know how to prepare. Stations that are required to make the transition must begin airing 30-second public service announcements at least six times per day by May 1. The announcements must include a statement that Canadian television is in the process of converting over-the-air transmitters to digital, a warning that some viewers of these stations may experience a loss of service following the conversion, information about what steps should be taken to maintain reception and contact information.
