COMPAQ REDESIGNS DESKTOP LINE-UP

Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston, Texas has revamped its commercial desktop computer offerings. The company has dropped the Prolinea line of machines will now sell commercial desktop computers only under the Deskpro brand name. The computers will be sold under the 2000, 4000 and 6000 lines, which became available worldwide this week. The 2000 machines are low-end computers that are available with Intel processors of up to 200 megahertz, or Pentium Pro 180 MHz or 200 MHz microprocessors. The mid-range 4000 computers are network-ready PCs. The 6000 family consists of high-end machines. All the computers come with Intelligent Manageability software, which offers Inventory, Fault and Security management. In Canada, print advertising for the machines will begin by the end of the month. It will be created by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of Toronto. Later this year Compaq will launch trade advertising in Canada. It will also be created by Ammirati.
