LOTUS CREDITS INCREASE IN ADVERTISING ON SUCCESS

U.S.-based Lotus Development Corp. says part of the reason it has achieved 20% of the worldwide desktop application suite market is because has increased its advertising by 40%. In addition, it has been running marketing programs for its PC vendors which are designed to convert consumers to SmartSuite. In addition, SmartSuite is now available on Fujitsu's three new lines of laptop PCs, as well as the Proteva line of PCs sold on the Home Shopping Network. In Canada, advertising for Lotus is done by Doner Schur Peppler of Toronto. Lotus' Canadian marketing manager Jim Wentzell told Adnews yesterday that Canadian advertising for the company increased by 30% over the past year. The 20% market share figure comes from U.S. research firm Dataquest.
