PHILIP MORRIS ORDERED TO PULL ADS

Philip Morris Cos. was dealt a blow this week after a French judge slapped an injunction on its European ad campaign. As a result, the newspaper and magazine campaign has been pulled. The campaign was the third in a series that started in May 1995, designed to tackle anti-smoking legislation. The ads claim that second-hand smoke causes no greater health risk than eating cookies, or drinking milk or chlorinated water. The first portion of the series said anti-smoking legislation was an infringement of civil liberties. The second set of ads focused on smoking in public places such as restaurants.
