POWER BACK IN CANADIAN SATELLITE TV GAME

Power DirecTV has thrown its hat back into the Canadian digital satellite TV ring. The company will announce the date of the launch at a later date. Currently, the company is filing a proposal with Industry Canada to put two satellites in orbit. The company was licensed to offer the service last September. Power DirecTV officials were unavailable to comment on who would handle advertising for the service. Power DirecTV is 80% owned by Power Corp. of Montreal and 20% owned by U.S. satellite company DirecTV. The company had abandoned its plans in February, saying at the time the business wouldn't be profitable because of the terms of the license. ExpressVu Inc. of Mississauga, Ont. has delayed its DTH satellite service for the fourth time, saying it won't be available until next spring. Telesat Canada, Shaw Communications of Calgary and StarChoice Television Network of Lindsay, Ont. also want to launch DTH satellite TV service.
