JOB TRAINING ON THE NET
By Adnews Staff
Synervision Digital Productions of Ottawa will begin offering training software over the Internet in two weeks. The Synervision Learning Network is a service that allows subscribers to take courses on the Internet by gaining access to sites with full-motion video, graphics, animation, audio and music. Access is speedy because the Learning Network is brought to people's computers by DirecPC, Telesat Canada's fast digital satellite Internet connection. DirecPC subscribers are provided with a pizza-sized dish antenna and receiver kit, allowing them access the Internet at up to 400 kilobits per second, which is up to 30 times faster than access by conventional modems. The cost of the dish and receiver is $2,000. Print advertising for the service will begin in the fall. Synervision will likely use other media as well but plans have yet to be finalized. The ads will be done in-house with the help of freelancers. Synervision develops interactive learning software. Its programs include one used for training air traffic controllers, which will be offered on the Net.
