SEGA LOWERS SATURN PRICE AGAIN
By Adnews Staff
The Japanese company Sega Enterprises has cut the price of its Sega Saturn 32-bit game system for the second time in two months. In Canada the price dropped from $339 to $269 this week. In the U.S. the price went from $249(US) to $199. Sega says it cut the cost of its machine in order to match the prices of competitors' machines. When it made the previous price cut, Sega said it could do so because of strong worldwide hardware and software sales, as well as better hardware production capabilities. Sega says it has sold over 3.5 million Saturn systems worldwide, 500,000 of them in North America. California-based Sony says it has sold one million of its PlayStation units worldwide since launching the 32-bit system last September. Another Japanese game maker, Nintendo, is introducing its 64-bit system to North America in September. Nintendo says most consumers stuck with 16-bit video game systems last year. Ninety per cent of its total dollar sales in 1995 were for its 16-bit and 8-bit games.
