NEW PRESARIOS SOMETHING TO SEE AND HEAR

Houston-based Compaq Computer Corp. is launching new models of its Presario computers around the world this fall. Compaq says the new machines will have better graphics and sound, a big plus for people who like to play games on their personal computers. The new Presarios employ PowerVR 3-D accelerator graphics technology, which offers the same quality as games found in arcades. Compaq says PowerVR runs up to four times as fast as competing 3-D accelerators and 32-bit home video game systems. PowerVR was jointly developed by VideoLogic and NEC Semi-Conductor Division, both based in the U.S. Compaq has teamed up with U.S.-based Harman International Industries to develop JBL audio speakers for the new Presarios. In Canada, advertising for Compaq is done by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of Toronto.
