CMPA becomes Magazines Canada, picks new board
By Adnews Staff
The Toronto-based Canadian Magazine Publishers Association has changed its name to Magazines Canada. According to the organization, the change is intended to reflect its "new essence" and to better reflect the broad nature of the magazine business environment. "Magazines Canada was integrated into CMPA as the association's advertising services division in 2003," said Mark Jamison, CEO of the association. "Since then, the association has not only successfully taken on advertising services activity, but it has also enhanced its Ottawa presence, developed a small magazines project office, expanded consumer marketing activity, added several new professional development programs, and provided tenant space and shared services to the National Magazine Awards Foundation." In July, Magazines Canada plans to introduce a new logo, a new website at <http://www.magazinescanada.ca> and other rebranded communications materials. The magazine industry association represents approximately 300 Canadian consumer titles.
In related news, Deborah Rosser has been appointed board chair of Magazines Canada for the next two years. Rosser is the publisher of Canadian Business, Profit and MoneySense magazines, as well as vice-president of consumer publishing at Rogers Publishing. She has been on the association's board for six years and has been the chair of the membership and the advertising services committees. She was also a member of the small magazines task force. Other new board members for 2005/2006 include Jacqueline Howe of Transcontinental Media, Terry Sellwood of Quarto Communications, Melony Ward of Canadian Art, Derek Webster of Maisonneuve and Grant Young of The Downhomer.
