By Adnews Staff
CHUM Limited of Toronto has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Toronto radio station Jazz FM91 by which the jazz broadcaster will supply hosts, content, programming expertise and promotion for CHUM's proposed subscription radio service. Jazz FM will provide three to six channels of contemporary jazz, classic jazz, blues and big band music to CHUM Subscription Radio Canada. The station will also contribute airtime to promote the service. CHUM's application to operate a terrestrial-based subscription digital radio service, in partnership with Astral Media, is currently before the CRTC. According to CHUM, a decision is expected in the next few months. If approved, the service should launch in mid-2006, offering 50 to 100 channels of music and information content, including 15 to 20 francophone stations, for a monthly fee.
