Award show roundup

The Cat Fanciers' Association of Manasquan, NJ has issued a call for entries for the first annual Catlin Awards. The awards will "recognize excellence in the portrayal of the feline in advertising campaigns." The inaugural awards will be presented in June 2006 to coincide with the association's 100th anniversary. "The cat has global appeal when used in advertising and usually evokes feelings of domesticity, comfort and on occasion, even as an exotic allure," said association president Pam DelaBar. "Cats are already used in a variety of advertising for items specifically for them, as well as a wide variety of other products, such as printers, makeup, floor polish, cars, delivery services and even vacuum cleaners. We hope to encourage more innovative use of pedigreed cats in advertising and media." The contest is open to North American ad agencies. Entries must air or be published between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2005. The deadline for entries is Feb. 1, 2006. Awards will be presented in two categories for television and print advertising. Establishing in 1906, the Cat Fanciers' Association describes itself as the world's largest registering body for pedigreed cats.
