Toronto-based specialty station The Movie Network will launch a new high-definition service called The Movie Network HD on May 1. The channel will carry a 24-hour schedule of high-definition programming. It will be freely available to subscribers of The Movie Network. Programming will include shows from U.S. channels HBO and Showtime such as "Fat Actress," "G-Spot" and "Deadwood," original Canadian drama series and movies. The content will be shown commercial-free and uncut. "Canadians are rapidly changing the way they watch television and are increasingly demanding theatre-quality picture, superior audio and the ability to customize their viewing to watch what they want, when they want," said Domenic Vivolo, senior vice-president of marketing and sales at Astral Television Networks, which operates the service. "The offering of a new HD channel is an important next step in responding to viewer demand for a superior viewing experience."
