PRIME RESTAURANTS BEGINS GUINNESS PROMOTION

Prime Restaurants of Canada of Mississauga has begun a promotion with Diageo Canada involving Guinness beer. The effort will take place in Prime-owned pubs in Calgary and Ontario, including Fionn MacCool's, D'arcy McGee's, Paddy Flaherty's, Tir nan Og and Slainte. The promotion will run until Dec. 10. Customers who order eligible menu items will receive a glass depicting a character from the "My Goodness. My Guinness" advertising campaign. The campaign, which was first used in 1935, featured a zookeeper character along with an ostrich, a turtle, a toucan and a seal. Each glass in the series will be available for two weeks. To promote food that goes well with Guinness, the pubs will conduct sampling programs on Friday evenings. A print campaign will also be conducted in each market. Media planning and buying for the campaign is being handled by Wills & Co. of Toronto. Public relations are being done by Thornley Fallis Communications of Toronto.
