PASSAGE: MAXWELL DANE

Maxwell Dane, one of the founding partners of Doyle Dane Bernbach, now DDB Worldwide, died on Sunday at his home in New York after a brief illness. He was 98. Dane began his career at Stern Brothers in New York as secretary to the advertising manager. He also worked as the retail promotion manager at the New York Evening Post, an account executive and copywriter at Dorland International and the advertising and promotion manager at Look magazine. In 1944 he opened his own agency, Maxwell Dane. In 1949, he joined Ned Doyle and William Bernbach in the formation of Doyle Dane Bernbach. When he retired in 1971, Dane was chairman of the executive committee, secretary and treasurer of the agency.
