GOLDEN GRIDDLE TO GROW
By Adnews Staff
Golden Griddle Corporation has big plans. The privately-held Toronto-based company said recently that it has signed up a master franchiser to open restaurants in 50 hotels in Western Canada over the next eight years. The 31-year-old corporation also expects to ink a number of agreements this year that will call for 50 outlets to go up in the United States, mostly in hotels. In January Golden Griddle signed a memorandum of understanding with the PT Anwar Sierad company for 10 restaurants to be built in Indonesia over the next few years. Golden Griddle advertises in all media. Although it handles the job in-house, in the U.S. "our needs could change," executive vice-president Bill Hood told Adnews yesterday. He said the company will take some time to consider the situation before deciding whether to hire outside help for U.S. advertising. The new master franchiser in Western Canada is Denomme Management Services of Edmonton, which already has 48 Grandma Lee's outlets in the West. Golden Griddle has 65 restaurants already operating in Canada, most of them in hotels. Its current holdings in Western Canada consist of nine Binos restaurants, which it purchased in January and is transforming into Golden Griddle outlets. In Canada and the U.S., says a release, "Golden Griddle is aiming to fill what it perceives to be a special niche for a breakfast-lunch-and-dinner family-run restaurant operation, through converting the food and beverage facilities in hotels." All Golden Griddle restaurants are franchise operations.
