The goal the promotion, called "Youth Text 2004," is to engage young people in the next federal election. Using a text messaging short code, young people can send a question or statement to a participating political party's campaign headquarters. Political parties participating in the text messaging initiative include the Conservative Party of Canada, the Green Party of Canada, the Liberal Party of Canada and the New Democratic Party of Canada. According to Angela Claire Coutts of the Dominion Institute, the participating political parties will incorporate their text messaging codes into their campaign materials.
