CTV EAST BEGINS HIGH DEFINITION BROADCASTS

CTV will begin test broadcasts of its CTV East high definition signal today at 9:00 p.m. The signal will be carried nationally on Bell ExpressVu channel 630 and on Rogers Cable channel 287. According to Toronto-based CTV, the CTV East feed will be the same as the CFTO analogue signal in its programming. According to Rick Brace, president of CTV, the testing will be done while the broadcaster waits for approval of its application to the CRTC to begin broadcasting CTV East and West high definition signals. The CTV West signal will launch after the network's application has been approved. In August, CTV specialty channels TSN and Discovery Channel Canada began broadcasting in a high definition format.
