COCA-COLA BEGINS CANADIAN TV CAMPAIGN FOR BARQ'S
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Coca-Cola has begun a television campaign for Barq's root beer, a first for the brand in Canada. The ads, which use the tagline "Barq's has Bite," went into rotation last month. In them, a teenage spokesperson and a character called Barqy the Dog visit people door-to-door. Two 30-second ads, called "Overdub" and "Ventriloquist," are running in Ontario on network stations. A 15-second commercial called "Grumpy Old Men" is running nationally on specialty stations. "Overdub" and "Grumpy Old Men" are also running in Cineplex movie theatres. The television advertising was created by Cossette Communication-Marketing. Three transit ads are also in use, called "Shower," "Couch" and "Photocopier." Recycled from a Barq's transit campaign that ran last year, the ads depict Barqy the Dog playing pranks on a friend. The campaign will run until mid-November.
