RJR STARTS ADVERTISING

Toronto-based RJR MacDonald has tossed its hat in the advertising ring. The Toronto-based company has become the second tobacco manufacturer to start advertising since a federal ban on tobacco ads was lifted by Canada's Supreme Court last September. The company launched a campaign yesterday for its Export "A" Smooth brand of cigarettes using print and transit shelters in Ontario and Quebec. The headline reads, "Either you like it or you don't." The campaign was created by Sharpe Blackmore Partnership of Toronto. Rothmans, Benson & Hedges of Toronto launched a print and outdoor campaign earlier this week for its Canadian Classics cigarettes. This followed a TV spot that was launched late last month, for Rothmans' sponsorship of Formula One car racing. The Rothmans ads were created by Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising of Toronto. Montreal-based Imperial Tobacco says its plans to begin advertising soon.
