SMUCKER TO ADVERTISE FOR THE FIRST TIME
By Adnews Staff
J.M. Smucker Canada of Toronto is going to get serious about advertising. The Canadian branch of the U.S.-based company has never run traditional media advertising in Canada; it has only done promotions and run point-of-sale materials. The company has decided to advertise now because it wants "to make more of a commitment to the market," Leo Burnett Company vice-president Dave Chalmers told Adnews yesterday. Burnett's Toronto office was hired for the account late last month without a review because its Chicago office has the U.S. account. In the past, Smucker Canada has used promotional agencies on a project basis. Smucker makes Simply Fruit, Smuckers and Double Fruit jam brands, as well as Smuckers toppings.
