EQUICOM ACQUIRES BIOCOM

Equicom Group is to acquire Biocom Communications. The financial details of the purchase, expected to close by Feb. 15, are not known. Equicom is an investor relations consultancy with offices in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. Biocom is an integrated marketing communications company based in Toronto. After the acquisition, Equicom will realign its businesses into two groups: Equicom Creative Services and Equicom Professional Services. The Creative Services group will consist of Equicom's existing report production, presentation development, multimedia production and Web broadcasting services and Biocom's event management, corporate branding and audio and video production services. The Professional Services group will offer Equicom's investor relations and financial communications services. Biocom president Scott Kelly will become senior vice-president of The Equicom Group and president of the Equicom Creative Services group. According to Barry Hildred, president of Equicom, there are no client conflicts inherent in this deal.
