TSN PROMOTES COMMEMORATIVE HOCKEY MAGAZINE

Sports network TSN has produced a magazine commemorating Canadian hockey history called the TSN Team Canada Collector's Edition. The publication, the first from the company, will be released on Nov. 27. Among other coverage, the magazine examines three notable Canadian hockey victories: the 1972 Summit Series, the 1987 Canada Cup and the 2002 Winter Olympics. The publication will be promoted with 15- and 30-second commercials, produced in-house, on TSN and other CTV properties such as the Discovery Channel and the Comedy Network. A 30-second radio ad will air for four-to-six weeks on The Fan 590, MOJO, Q107 and CHUM-FM. In-store materials will be used at approximately 1,000 retail locations in Toronto, Hamilton, Oshawa, Ottawa, Vancouver and Calgary. Also, the TSN.ca Web site will run a series of polls tied to the material covered in the magazine. "We've taken a somewhat different approach with our marketing initiatives for the magazine," said TSN marketing director Adam Ashton. "We've gone directly to stores where consumers are making their purchasing decision. Coupled with our traditional broadcast media support, we believe this strategy will make for very effective results."
