NEW APPLE PRINTERS

Apple Computer Inc. of Cupertino, California put two new printers on the North American market this week, and added features to an existing one. The launch is being done without fanfare. There is no advertising scheduled. The LaserWriter 12/600 PS targets businesses, and prints at 600 by 600 dots-per-inch. In addition, it comes with 39 PostScript and 65 TrueType fonts, and uses Apple's ColorSync 2.0 color matching technology. This means the color seen on the computer screen, is the exact color that comes out of the printer. The LaserWriter 4/600 PS is a desktop monochrome laser printer that prints four pages per minute, and weighs 15 pounds. It automatically shuts down when not in use, and wakes up instantly for its next job, eliminating printer warm-up time. Apple has added three features to the Color StyleWriter 2400 inkjet printer. It lets users drag and drop files onto a printer icon on the desktop, which automatically launches the application and the print dialog box. It can print two or four reduced-sized documents on a single page, and lets users place words such as "draft" or "confidential" on the background of a page.
