HEALTH CANADA TARGETS YOUTH IN SECOND-HAND SMOKE CAMPAIGN
By Adnews Staff
Health Canada will break a new campaign aimed at youth tomorrow. The advertising, created by Montreal-based BCP, will focus on second-hand smoke-related diseases such as asthma, lung cancer, heart disease and bronchitis. A television commercial called "Couch" will be accompanied by billboard, transit and theatre advertising. The ad shows a girl is sitting alone on a couch at a party. She is joined by a boy smoking a cigarette. A second boy sits in the middle of the couch, but quickly leaves. The girl looks at the remaining boy and his cigarette. A voiceover says, "Tobacco companies say second-hand smoke bothers people. Health Canada says it kills. Second-hand smoke diseases, there's no telling what you'll pick up tonight. Are you a target?" The campaign is the third in a series on second-hand smoke. The first focused on second-hand smoke in the home while the second focused on second-hand smoke in the workplace. The new campaign will run until the end of December, followed by a campaign focusing on cessation.
