Gerber Products Co. of Fremont, Michigan is selling its children's apparel divisions to GCI Holding of Greenville, South Carolina. The units being sold are Gerber Childrenswear and Costura Dominicana. They market products such as infant underwear, bibs, socks, blankets, sleepers and bedding. Under the deal, GCI will have an exclusive license to use the Gerber name and trademark on apparel sold in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Argentina and the Caribbean. Gerber will handle distribution and marketing. In Canada, Gerber has Grey Direct of Toronto doing direct mail advertising for the clothing. It also advertises in trade magazines by offering products as prizes for contests. The magazines produce the ads themselves.
