VANCOUVER POLICE INTRODUCE BAIT CAR PROGRAM
By Adnews Staff
The Vancouver Police Department is publicizing a new anti-car theft program with radio and print advertising created by Palmer Jarvis DDB of Vancouver. The program aims to reduce car thefts in Vancouver through the use of "bait" cars equipped with pinhole cameras and global positioning systems. If one of the cars is stolen, police can remotely disable it and make an arrest. Advertising will run in newspapers, on transit shelters, on Sky Train posters and in washrooms until December. One ad called "Outdoor" shows a large mousetrap camouflaged among the cars in a parking lot. Another ad called "Street" depicts a wire-cage trap in a parking spot. A third ad called "Underground" shows a booby-trap in a parking space. Two 30-second radio commercials present the sound a thief caught stealing a bait car. The campaign's tagline is "Bait cars. Steal One. Go to jail." The program will also be promoted with a mousetrap the size of a car that will be placed in high risk and high traffic areas around the city.
