TORSTAR ACQUIRES CONTROLLING INTEREST IN TRANSIT TELEVISION NETWORK

Toronto-based Torstar Corp. has acquired a controlling interest in the Transit Television Network for US$4.1 million. The network is a joint venture between Torstar and the ITEC Network, a division of ITEC Entertainment, based in Orlando, FL. It delivers audio and visual announcements, national news, local weather, advertising and games through screens mounted in transit vehicles. The screens are currently installed in 85 buses in Orlando. The program is also being rolled out in Milwaukee. Expansion into other North American cities is also planned.
