DRIVE SOBER CAMPAIGN BEGINS

The Ontario Community Council on Impaired Driving has partnered with Esso service stations and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation Driver Examination Centres to distribute approximately 120,000 Drive Sober passports to drivers this month. The passports describe ways to prevent impaired driving, home hosting tips and the current penalties for impaired driving. Distribution of the passports began at the start of August, which is the worst month of the year for alcohol-involved crashes, according to the council. The council has also revised two 30-second radio public service announcements to emphasize their sober driving message this month. The first ad aims to deliver a message about safe and sober driving to G2 drivers. It makes use of music by Alanis Morrisette. The second ad relates home hosting advice. Print support in the form of two hundred posters bearing cartoon images will also be used. The advertising space has been donated by the TTC and Viacom Outdoor. Additional promotion of sober driving in August will include Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police posters at LCBO outlets and poster artwork in the summer edition of the LCBO Price Book.
