KELLOGG CANADA MARKS TONY THE TIGER'S 50TH BIRTHDAY

Toronto-based Kellogg Canada is nationally promoting the 50th birthday of its Tony the Tiger spokescharacter with a birthday-themed cereal, a promotion and in-store activities. The character was created in 1952 as part of a contest at the launch Kellogg's Sugar Frosted Flakes of Corn. A special birthday-themed cereal with confetti sprinkles on Kellogg's Frosted Flakes cereal will be sold for a limited time beginning next month. Kellogg will also distribute two million limited edition character watches inside specially-marked boxes of Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, Corn Pops and Rice Krispies cereal. The watches depict Tony the Tiger, Toucan Sam, Snap, Crackle and Pop. In-store activities and events in grocery stores and related venues will take place over the nwxt several months. A 30-second television commercial, created by Leo Burnett of Toronto, began running nationally on Feb. 14. It presents a review of Tony the Tiger's character over the years and highlights the watch promotion. Public relations for Kellogg Canada are handled by Media Profile of Toronto.
