MESSIER RETURNS IN NEW HOSTESS FRITO-LAY CAMPAIGN
By Adnews Staff
Hostess Frito-Lay Canada Inc. of Mississauga maintains its "Betcha Can't Eat Just One" theme in a new television advertising campaign for its Lay's potato chips. Also returning as Lay's spokesperson is hockey player Mark Messier. The first campaign with Messier ran in 1997. The new television campaign breaks on Feb. 3 on Global Television during the Super Bowl. The first spot, called "How About", depicts Messier missing a flight when he stops to eat potato chips. It ends with Messier stranded at the airport signing autographs for a boy and his friends. The second spot, called "Hot Shot", depicts a new teammate losing a bet when Messier challenges him to eat just one Lay's potato chip. As a result, the teammate must sing the national anthem at the next game. Thirty- and 60-second versions of both ads have been created. The campaign will roll out nationally following their Super Bowl debut. It was created by BBDO Toronto.
