7 UP HIRES NEW SPOKESMAN

Dr. Pepper/Seven Up, Inc., based in Plano, TX has hired actor and comedian Godfrey to take over as spokesman for 7 Up in a 2002 advertising campaign called "Make 7 Up Yours." Godfrey replaces Orlando Jones. A 30-second transition commercial called "First Thing" will introduce Godfrey to viewers. In the spot, Godfrey says that he is the new 7 Up guy and that the old guy has been promoted. As he walks down a busy street he says that the previous spokesman taught him everything about marketing 7 Up and that the first thing he should do as the new 7 Up guy is to get out and expose himself to the public. He then begins to remove his clothing. Six additional commercials, two 15-second and four 30-second spots, also depict Godfrey promoting 7 Up from unusual locations including a prison, an outdoor hockey game and from the top of a mountain. The commercials were created by Young & Rubicam New York and will run through the year during teen and young-adult programming. Seven Up's target market is 12 to 24 year-olds. The "Make 7 Up Yours" advertising campaign first began running in November 1999.
