NEW TV SPECIALTY CHANNEL LOOKS FOR O.K.

Toronto-based World Television Network/Reseau Telemonde wants to put a new national TV station on the air. The company has filed an application with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission for a specialty channel carrying programs from around the world. There would be both Canadian-made English shows and programs with English subtitles. "The programming that will be seen on WTM will be unique in North America. It will appeal to all Canadians who have interests in the world's diversity of nation's and peoples, their concerns, views, entertainment, business and activities," WTM president Dan Iannuzzi says in a release. The service will be delivered to cable companies across Canada via satellite. Iannuzzi says the channel will be of interest to U.S. viewers as well. A number of alliances have been formed with Canadian and international television production companies and WTM is looking for more capital investment in order to put new interactive capabilities in place. WTM has retained Mercantile Mergers & Acquisitions Corporation of Toronto to help find someone to put up $4 million. WTM was turned down by the CRTC in 1991 when it applied for a licence for a station that would have had programming in 18 different languages.
