EMPORI.COM CLOSES CONSUMER WEB SITE

Empori.com is closing its business-to-consumer e-commerce Web site. The company, founded by Oxford Properties Group last year, will take its last orders today and will close its four depots in the Greater Toronto Area on Friday. Empori.com let customers have online purchases from retailers like Chapters, Indigo.ca, Sears, Eatons, Grocery Gateway, HMV, LCBO and Roots delivered to the Empori.com depot closest to them for pick-up. The company cited recent changes in the dot-com environment and its inability to find another strategic and financial partner to support further development of its B2C business as reasons for the closure. Its business-to-business site will continue to operate through an agreement with BellZinc.ca. Advertising for Empori.com's B2C portal had been handled by Toronto agency Sharpe Blackmore EURO RSCG, which won the marketing and advertising account of Empori.com's consumer and B2B sites in March.
