EBAY CANADA CUTS CORDS
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based eBay Canada is going mobile with a new wireless service called eBay Anywhere. The service allows buyers and sellers at the online trading site to access <http://www.ebay.ca> from Web-enabled wireless devices. Users can browse, search, register, bid and get bidding status updates using cellular phones, pagers and handhelds. Another new feature, called "Buy It Now", allows buyers to purchase an item at a fixed price without having to wait for the auction to end. Items will be marked with a "Buy It Now" icon beside its listing. EBay.ca is also introducing Escrow.ca, a protected payment service for high-priced items. Payment for an item will be held by Escrow.ca until the buyer has received the purchase, at which time Escrow.ca will release the payment to the seller. EBay Anywhere will be promoted in eBay's email newsletter. The service will also be featured on the Bell Mobility mobile browser. Bell Mobility is also promoting the addition of the service to its browser via monthly inserts and in-store materials. Public relations for eBay Canada are handled by Cohn & Wolfe of Toronto.
