BEVERAGE MARKET GROWING

Canada's $4.1-billion beverage industry grew 8% last year, with increased coffee prices and new products playing major roles in the growth, according to Nielsen Marketing Research. Sales of ice tea in cans grew 75%. Low alcohol wine cooler sales jumped 68% and ground coffee sales were up 54%. Sales of ready-to-serve ice tea, excluding cans, went up 43% while instant coffee sales increased 30%. Sales of fruit juice and fruit drinks and nectars increased 11% and cordial syrup sales grew 9%. Bottled water and specialty tea bag sales increased 8%.
