APPLE TO OPEN RETAIL STORES

Apple Computer Inc., based in Cupertino, CA, plans to open 25 retail stores throughout the U.S. this year. The first two stores will open in Virginia and California this weekend. Each Apple store will be organized in sections and will carry every Apple product, various third-party products and over 300 software titles. "The Apple stores offer an amazing new way to buy a computer," said Apple's chief executive Steve Jobs. "Rather than just hear about megahertz and megabytes, customers can now learn about and experience the things they can actually do with a computer, like make movies, burn custom music CDs, and publish their digital photos on a personal Web site."
