LOREX SAFETY PRODUCTS

A new series of safety-oriented products is seeping its way into the market thanks to Markham, Ontario's Lorex Products Inc. After first appearing on Canadian Tire store shelves last fall, the products are now being distributed to other retailers, and should also be available at Home Hardware, Consumer's Distributing and K-Mart stores by August or September. Each Lorex product covers a different aspect of personal safety. The products range from HomeGAURD, a wireless, portable burglar alarm to BodyGAURD, a jogging and cycling personal alarm. Lorex will set up booths in stores to demonstrate the products as they come on the market. The displays are being created by The Watt Group of Toronto. It was important that the display be educational and resist using scare-tactics while taking up very little room, executive vice-president of marketing Joel Kligman told Adnews this week. For the first year, the company plans to use point-of-purchase promotions, and then move on to using print media in the second year and electronic media in the third. The company is also sponsoring the Canada Safety Council's "National Crime Prevention Week". Lorex is a Canadian-developed company that is part of Amsterdam's Hagemeyer Corporation.
