COKE AND PARMALAT SPAR OVER TAGLINE

Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Company and Toronto-based Parmalat Canada are debating the use of the phrase "Life Tastes Good". According to a report in The Globe and Mail, Parmalat Canada claims to have first dibs on the tagline it says it has been using in ads for its Lactantia brand since last fall. However, Coca-Cola, which launched a global ad campaign last month using the same tagline, is also laying claim to the line. Coca-Cola filed an application with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office to use the tagline in Canada, the report said. Its global campaign was scheduled to begin in Canada in June. Lactantia Ltd. reportedly submitted its application in March. Parmalat said in the report it is communicating with Coca-Cola and "hopes to resolve the issue." Coca-Cola's campaign was created by Interpublic's McCann-Erickson unit. Parmalat named Goodgoll Curtis agency of record for Lactantia in October.
