GLAXOSMITHKLINE PRESCRIBES MEDIA BUYING DUTIES TO MEDIACOM

Pharmaceutical and healthcare company GlaxoSmithKline has awarded its U.S. consumer media buying account to New York-based MediaCom, a division of Grey Global Group. The company, formed as a result of the merger of Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham, wanted to consolidate its consumer media buying with one agency. Four incumbent agencies including Media Planning Group, Media Edge, Initiative Media, in addition to MediaCom had been invited to participate in the agency search. Each agency had previously worked with one of the two companies prior to their merging. Advertising strategies, creative and media planning responsibilities for GlaxoSmithKline are handled by a number of agencies.
