TRIBAR SPONSORS TORONTO SUICIDE BARRIER

Toronto-based Tribar Industries' $3.5 million sponsorship of a barrier on Toronto's Bloor Viaduct received the approval of Toronto City Council on Wednesday. Tribar is a manufacturer of outdoor advertising video boards. The Viaduct, which runs across Toronto's Don Valley, is a well-known suicide spot. Since opening in 1918, more than 300 people have committed suicide at the bridge, including 32 individuals between 1998 and 1999. Tribar was one of a number of potential corporate sponsors that were seeking this sponsorship. No signs will appear on the bridge itself, but Tribar has received permission to install two new LumatronX video boards in as-yet undecided locations as part of the deal.
