H&R BLOCK ASKS "WHO WANTS TO BE A CANADIAN MILLIONAIRE?"

As tax season gets under way, Calgary-based H&R Block Canada is asking "Who wants to be a Canadian millionaire?" The tax preparation firm is running a national contest on this side of the border in conjunction with H&R Block's U.S. sponsorship this week of four episodes of the television game show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". The Canadian contest is open to anyone who brings their 2000 tax return to one of H&R Block's Canadian offices. Customers will receive a scratch and match card with which they can win $1 million or one of over 2,000 secondary prizes. Five $2,000 RRSPs are also available to be won. The contest is being supported with a national advertising campaign from MacLaren McCann of Toronto. Television and radio advertising, including sponsorship of closed captioning during "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" on CTV, is being accompanied with a direct mail push and in-store materials. The campaign's creative surrounds the "Who wants to be a Canadian millionaire?" theme. The contest closes April 30, the deadline for filing 2000 tax returns. Public relations for H&R Block are handled by Fleishman Hillard of Toronto.
