CHATELAINE.COM ENCOURAGING WOMEN TO THROW LIKE A GIRL

Chatelaine.com, the online counterpart to Toronto-based Chatelaine magazine, is inviting women to participate in its online snowball fight. The contest is targeting Chatelaine readers, 25 to 49 years of age, inviting them to toss a couple of virtual snowballs to friends and family. Their targets receive an animated e-postcard depicting a snowball flying at their computer screen. For every online snowball tossed, a ballot for a trip to Mexico will be entered on behalf of the sender. "Throw Like A Girl and Win" is being promoted in Chatelaine's March issue which hit newsstands today. Home subscribers got a head start at tossing the snowballs because they received their issues earlier this month. According to Chatelaine.com, even before the contest launched on Feb. 5, over 4,000 participants had already tossed 16,000 snowballs. The online magazine expects its opt-in email list will include over 100,000 names by the time the contest ends on March 31. "Throw Like A Girl and Win" is being supported with print ads in Chatelaine as well as upcoming issues of Maclean's and Flare magazines. Online banners running throughout Rogers Media properties are also supporting the contest. Additional promotion will appear in email newsletters. The contest was developed by Market Space Design Group of Toronto, which also handled the contest's micro site and banner ads. Public relations for Chatelaine.com are handled by GCI Group of Toronto.
