THE GLOBE & MAIL EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH TRANSCONTINENTAL

The Globe and Mail has extended its printing contract with Transcontinental Printing Inc. until 2010. According to Montreal-based Transcontinental, the contract is valued between $750 million to $1 billion over the next ten years. Transcontinental prints the national newspaper for markets in Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Canada, Europe and the Eastern U.S. As part of the agreement, Transcontinental will invest in three facilitates including its Web Atlantic facility in Halifax, its Interweb Printing facility near Montreal and its Interweb Printing facility in Mississauga, Ontario, to meet enhanced colour requirements for the national newspaper, François Olivier, senior vice-president of the newspaper group at Transcontinental said. The newspaper has been printed at the Halifax facility since 1982, at the facility near Montreal since 1989 and at the facility in Ontario since 1994. The Globe and Mail has also extended printing contracts with the Brandon Sun facility in Manitoba, the North Hill News facility in Calgary and the College Printers facility in Vancouver to 2010.
