LOW-FAT MUFFINS MOVE EAST

Three Blondes and a Brownie, Inc. expanded into Eastern Canada this month. McDonald's restaurants in Ontario and the Atlantic provinces are now selling Cranberry-Orange versions of the Edmonton company's Fat-Wise muffins. Three Blondes and a Brownie is hoping to take on more distributors and wants to introduce more flavors in Eastern Canada within the next six months. The company was started in 1993 by Candace Brinsmead, Terry Lynne Meyer and Nadja Piatka. Before starting the bakery, Brinsmead was a banker and Meyer was a television show host. Piatka is a fitness instructor and author of two books on weight loss, one already published and another coming to bookshelves soon. They sell their baked goods to McDonald's outlets in Western Canada, as well as to hospitals, fitness clubs, hotels and restaurants. They use point-of-sale advertising which is created by Palmer Jarvis Advertising's Edmonton office. Their company makes six different flavors of muffins which they say have 269 calories each and contain 5% fat by weight.
