HOLLINGER REPORTS LOSS

Vancouver-based Hollinger Inc. has joined the list of publishers blaming high newsprint prices for poor financial performance. The company has reported a loss of $4.3 million for the third quarter ending Sept. 30. This compares with a profit of $4.6 million during the same period a year earlier. Revenue rose 10.7%, to $356.3 million, from $322 million. In the first nine months of the year Hollinger made a profit of $10.1 million, down considerably from $113.8 million for the same period the previous year.
