P&G PREPARING TO WASH & GO
By Adnews Staff
Procter & Gamble, based in Cincinnati, OH, is rinsing its Wash & Go brand from its portfolio. The consumer goods company announced last week it was putting the hair care line, sold only in the European market, up for sale. "Although Wash & Go is a profitable and highly recognized brand, it is no longer a primary focus area for us within our broader hair care business," Martin Nuechtern, president of the global hair care business at P&G said. Global brands of P&G's hair care business include Pantene Pro-V and Head & Shoulders. Wash & Go represented less than 1% of P&G's total global beauty care sales for the 1999/2000 year. P&G recently completed the sale of its acne skin care brand Clearasil to Boots Healthcare International last month. That sale was also part of the company's plan to focus on its top brands. According to P&G, if it does not receive an acceptable offer it will keep the Wash & Go brand.
