NADBANK 2000 STUDY RELEASED

Weekly readership levels across Canada have remained stable according to results of the NADbank 2000 Study. The annual study is conducted by Newspaper Audience Database Inc. and this year measured 66 daily newspapers in 46 urban markets. National newspaper results show that in 24 English markets across Canada, just over 2 million adults read an issue of The Globe and Mail in the average week, whereas 1.7 million read the National Post. Globe and Mail also leads the way in the Read Yesterday, 5 Day Cume, Read Saturday and 6 Day Cume categories. In the Toronto market, results show overall readership increased. Of the adults 18+ surveyed, 57% indicated they had read a newspaper yesterday, 72% said they had read at least one paper during the week and 82% said by the end of the week, they have read at least one newspaper. The Toronto Star topped the charts in the Read Yesterday category with a total figure of 1.2 million. The Toronto Sun followed in second place at 690,000. The Globe and Mail was third with a Read Yesterday readership figure of 575,000 and the National Post rounded out the list with a figure of 349,000. The Star also lead the way in the 5 Day Cume, Read Saturday, Read Sunday and 6/7 Day Cume categories. The Toronto Sun stood in second for each of the categories, Globe and Mail third and National Post fourth.
