OGILVY & MATHER ANSWERS MOTOROLA CALL
By Adnews Staff
Motorola Inc., based in Schaumburg, Illinois, has consolidated its global creative advertising account with Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, based in New York. O&M, which had previously handled the company's interactive and online advertising, had been invited to pitch for the global business with Motorola's two additional primary agencies Leo Burnett and McCann Erickson. Leo had previously handled advertising for Motorola's embedded chips and McCann managed the company's consumer products advertising. O&M will develop a global campaign for Motorola to position the brand in the technology markets. The campaign will incorporate all of Motorola's businesses and is expected to launch in the upcoming months. The consolidation of its creative advertising account follows Motorola's consolidation of its global public relations business in June with Hill and Knowlton. The company also announced that its media buying and planning assignments, currently with O&M, Leo Burnett and McCann Erickson, will also be consolidated as a global media review gets underway. Advertising for Toronto-based Motorola Canada Ltd. had previously been done by MacLaren McCann. Jennifer Weyrauch, spokesperson for Motorola, said although the budgets for 2001 have not be completed, Motorola spent $400 million on advertising and media in 2000.
