A&P EXPANDING HOUSE BRAND GROCERY CHAIN

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Company Canada says it will open four more Food Basics Limited stores in Ontario by the end of the year, after launching four during the summer. Each is about 20,000 square feet and carries 4,000 items. Along with perishables, they have a limited assortment of national brand packaged goods and a lot of the A&P house brands, Equality and Master's Choice. Print advertising, created in-house, is used to announce the opening of each store. The emphasis in the new stores is on fresh produce, low prices and convenient neighborhood locations. Right now all the stores are company-owned but A&P also plans to franchise locations.
